Harbolnas 2017: A Day Both Buyers & Sellers Are Always Crazy About

Friday, December 15, 2017

The moment of National Online Shopping Day simplified as Harbolnas, has become a profit venue for every online shopping site in Indonesia for quite a while now. You must be wondering when and how exactly Harbolnas started? It began five years ago by an initiative from five startup e-commerce companies such as Lazada Indonesia, Zalora, Blanja, PinkEmma, Berrybenka, and Bukalapak.

Okay, so let’s talk about 2017 now. According to, there were 254 e-commerce companies that participated in this year’s Harbolnas. These companies raced to give exclusive offers, privileges and main discounts up to 95%. Crazy, right? Chairman of Harbolnas 2017, Achmad Alkatiri, said this event would help e-commerce motivate their customers to buy a product from them with many privileges and offers along with free delivery charge.

This year’s Harbolnas tagline was #BelanjaOnlineBersama and the committees invited more from UMKM to participate so they can feel the impact of Harbolnas on businesses. Lazada Indonesia created a record for the highest number of transactions during Harbolnas 2017. Taken from, Lazada managed to increase their total Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) by 10x more than on a daily basis, with the number of visits 4x more than the usual within a day. Co-CEO of Lazada Indonesia, Florian Holm, shared that this year’s achievement is the highest record of value-based transactions within the last six years they have participated in this immensely popular Harbolnas event.

We took the liberty of monitoring several hashtags which we tracked during the Harbolnas period, ones relating to brands and those that don’t relate to any brands whatsoever. We tracked within the period of 11-14 December 2017 and were able to summarize the result on the Infographic below. Let’s take a look which brands were the most popular and viral during Harbolnas 2017.
